Travelling as a family
More than a room for the night
Travelling through Nairobi as a family is a different accommodation problem to travelling as a couple. You need enough bedrooms, somewhere to sit together, space for children to unwind after a day out, and ideally a garden and a pool. Jungle Oasis is a small, owner-run compound of private units in Karen, where each family has its own bedrooms, kitchen and living space, and shares a heated pool and tropical gardens with just a few other guests.

Which stay is best for families with younger children?
The Jungle Oasis Loft is a poolside apartment for up to four guests. Both ensuite bedrooms, each with a double bed, are inside the same apartment as the living area, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. That more contained layout makes it easier for parents who want younger children sleeping close by.
Best suited to: families with younger children, including those travelling with children roughly 0 to 12. A recommendation, not a rule.
How are the cottages laid out?
Cottage 1 and Cottage 2 each sleep up to four and are made up of three small cottages sitting right next to each other: two detached ensuite bedroom cottages and a central living room and kitchen cottage, all private to your group, with a private garden and verandas. Cottage 2 also has its own hot tub.
Families with younger children are welcome, but because the bedrooms are detached from the central living space, parents may prefer to share a bedroom cottage with younger children.
Best suited to: families with older children and teenagers who are comfortable with separate sleeping spaces.

Nairobi with children
Karen is a leafy, residential part of Nairobi and a natural base for the attractions families most often plan around. Nairobi National Park, the Giraffe Centre and the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage are about 20 minutes from Jungle Oasis, and the Karen Blixen Museum is here in Karen too. Staying nearby means shorter journeys and more time back at the pool.

Before or after safari
After a long international flight, many families want a night or two to settle in before safari begins. Jungle Oasis is not a safari lodge, it is a quiet stay in Karen, but the gardens, heated pool and private space make it an easy place to recover, and a slower final stop before flying home.
